Event Sparks – In the Beginning

It all started with panto, “oh NO it didn’t”, at the age of 12 company director, Chives Farrance, was involved backstage at the local pantomime. Over the years Chives took part in many roles including: stage crew, working in the flies, lighting and pyro. Chives’ family have been involved in both the pantomime and electrics. At the time of choosing a route to take for college, electrics was the last thing. However with the lighting bug within him, Performing Arts became the chosen path, technical was the calling. When asked what speciality he would like to follow, the answer was lighting. The response that commonly followed was “well you need to do an electricians course too then!”.


So whilst at college Chives completed a City & Guild course in 216 Electrical Installation. He paired this together with a 181 Theatre & Entertainments Electrician, on top of the BND in Performing Arts. This lead to Chives spending time on Starlight Express in the West End. He then returned to Redgrave theatre and the Bristol Old Vic theatre. Here Chives spent a year at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. 

After leaving the “Old Vic” live entertainment was firmly in Chives’ blood and “Chives Power & Light” kept him busy for many years. Chives has worked within a few company’s. Amongst this he’s had the pleasure of working on some high profile gigs. Some of these include, ‘The UK Music Hall of Fame’ in 2006 and ‘Long Drive World Series’ in 2017.

Event Sparks – Our Focus & Ambition 

The focus changed from lighting and moved more heavily into power as the main discipline. In late 2018 Event Sparks was formed with the ambition of being out of the office as much as possible but still keeping strong control. This means that every event weather a wedding or a festival appeals to the company’s attention. Our company loves being at the events  and Master Chief (Chives) still loves working with the crew and clients.
